Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool may have to pull out of exhibition matches in Thailand – all because of a tiny football club in Pattaya.
Pattaya FC (not to be confused with Premier League Pattaya United) have stirred things up by issuing a law suit against the Football Association of Thailand (FAT). That hasn’t gone down well with world governing body FIFA, which threatened to suspend FAT’s membership of FIFA.
If that happens, clubs such as Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United wouldn’t be able to play the games, which are due to take place in a few weeks. Thousands of tickets have already been sold for these matches and it would be a major financial blow if they were forced to abandon the games.
So far, Pattaya FC has refused to budge. The row is to do with voting rights for the new FAT president.
The Nation reported that FAT could not have any international contact if the suspension goes ahead. The Daily Mail picked up on the story too, and confirmed that the crowd-pulling games were under threat.
