*** Suchin Oomkate, 45, is taken on a crime re-enactment yesterday (21/10) after confessing to shooting dead Italian tourist Mario Ferrari, 58, for having an affair with his girlfriend in Khon Kaen, northeastern Thailand. ***

An Italian tourist was murdered after getting caught up in a love triangle with a Thai woman and her jilted ex-boyfriend.

Mario Ferrari, 58, had been seeing Sumitra Sriphromma, 32, for around a year but she was also dating local businessman Suchin Oomkate, 45, in Khon Kaen, northeastern Thailand.

Suchin bought his lover a gift of a motorcycle - which he then saw the tourist, from Cremona, Italy, riding last Sunday (20/10) afternoon during a trip to see the young woman.

The furious boyfriend realised the foreigner was the man his partner had been cheating on him with and chased after him in his car

Jealous Sumitra said he drew a 32mm revolver that was kept inside his car before opening fire on the Italian, who was hit in the back of the head from the bullets.

The killer left the gun at his friend's house and ran away to the border-connected province Kalasin.

But officers arrested him during his trip back to Khon Kaen where he said he was planning to surrender himself at the station.

He told police that he had been in a relatonship with Sumitra for a year. Officers said that Suchin confessed to shooting the Italian because he was jealous his girlfriend was seeing him.

Suchin said: "I had a relationship with my girlfriend for a year before she started seeing someone else.

''When I found out she was cheating on me tried to find her lover. I saw the Itlian man riding on a motorcycle that I bought for her so I knew that he was her secret lover."

Police Colonel Sutthipong Pekthong said that the killer was remanded in custody and charged with murder.

He said: "Initailly, we charged him with murder and carrying a weapon in public. He is now imprisoned at the station while waiting for the trial and we ruled out any kind of bail."
